Do you remember what automobile travel was like in the days before the development of modern highways?
I remember they were narrow, winding, slow, poor visibility, dangerous and tiring. Depending how far you were traveling it would take hours and days longer compared with the roads we have today. Today everything is planned out for curves, speed, and visibility. Traffic in many instances glides safely and smoothly.
Proverbs 3:6 - In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. NKJV
Proverbs 3:6 - In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will level your paths. CJB
Another version says: "Having mind of him whereever you may go, and he will clear the road for you.
God has promised to lead, guide, or show you the way.
The Lord's guidance will always keep us from having to follow a round-about path. He will clear the road ahead of us and get us to our destination by the safest, straightest route possible. Unless He just wants to take you on a scenic drive there will be back road, no detours, no raodblocks, no lost time.
Just travel straight ahead and on the right track.
What a God we serve.

Chick-fil-A thoughts
By now many in America are aware of the comments made by the COO of Chick-fil-A, a corporation that is owned and operated by those of strong Christian Belief and Faith. They were asked a simple question about their stand on the hot subject of lesbians, gays and homosexuals. As I recall Mr Cathy said simply, "We do not promote the gay/lesbian agenda. We will serve anyone who comes to our establishment however." Chicago and Boston retorted that they were discriminating against gays. We have gay/pride days across our country and in our nations capitol. People on everyside make their remarks. No one takes away their voice and ability to speak their minds.
Look out! With the continual encroachment upon and against Christian values it is now possible for people of "power" (small "p" here) to sway persons and ply for the vote for their office in any manner or way they wish without regard of the consequence.
"Thank the Lord we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles" Mr. Cathy added in the interview that led to the controversy.
I agree. Let's keep our freedom alive. Read the Bible (God's Word to Us) and see what happens for those who remember God and see what happens for those who refuse God. The difference is dramatic on both sides of this picture.
"Choose ye this day whom ye will serve, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord." Words sopken of Joshua to a rebellious group in the Old Testament Record.
We must pay attention and choose wisely. There is only one way out of her alive the other is death. Choose.

Peace in action
Philippians 4:7 "and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
I have thought quite a lot about the peace of God in the last two weeks. Two weeks ago my wife and I kissed and said "see you in a while." She was then taken into surgery where two physcians surgically repaired the firing system in her heart. The great peace we both sensed is almost beyone description. In normal situations I could have been a little anxious but this case was different. We had prayed and thought a lot about the day prior to its events. The God of peace placed a guard on both our hearts and we did just fine. Two weeks later we are still at peace and recovery is well in progress.
Are you going or perhaps going to go through a place where you need peace then call upon the Prince of Peace. That is the name isaiah the prophet declared would be for our coming savior.
Lean on Him. Read His word and find the peace of God that makes all the difference in our lives.
May God add His richest blessings upon your life today.

The Peace of God
Peace of God is a wonderful thing. I have studied and spoken of its value to all who pursue after the Prince of Peace. Scripture teaches us that God gives us a peace that passes understanding. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 was a day of God's supernatural endowment of peace. My wife went into major surgery for her heart after years of fighting the ailment with medicines. She had changed medicine on three occasions and now her heart was not better. Factually the medicine was not intended to heal the heart, only slow it down to thwart the Atrial Fibrillation which seemed to be on the increase not the decrease. So the day came for the procedure both external and internal that will sever the pathways of these errant signals and cease her heart of being out of time with itself. We had friends who know how to pray. They prayed. We both faced the departure in the pre-op room with a peace that "truly defies understanding." Not one bit of anxiety coursed through my body or emotions. My wife and I were talking today and she said the same thing. She was perfectly at peace. Two weeks ago we both had some anxieties about the whole procedure and outcomes as well as what if? Tuesday I spent five hours in the waiting area without anxiety and in perfect peace, nothing doubting as to the outcome. We are not disappointed. Yes we have several weeks of post-op recovery with the wonderful outlook of dispensing with the expensive medicines to control her heart. We both look forward to the peace of God to guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Breaking Bread and Fish
Jesus went aside to mourn the death of John the Baptist. When He came out from the place a multitude awaited Him. He had compassion on them and healed their sick. The day wore on and late in the day His disciples came to Him requesting that Jesus send the crowd away as there was no food in the place. Instead Jesus said to them, "you feed them." These men who were still learning just couldn't figure out how they would do such a thing. Jesus asked them "what do you have?" Five loaves and two fish they said. Have the people sit down in an orderly fashion. They did. Jesus took the bread and fish, looked up to heaven and blessed it, He then broke it and gave it to the disciples and told them to distribute it to the crowd. THey obeyed and at the end of the day 5,000 men plus women and children ate their fill and twelve baskets of fragments were picked up.
What is the moral of this story? It is a spiritual truth. The vast numbres of hungry people are wanting Jesus to bless them. Our lives, brought to Jesus, looking up to our heavenly Father, broken and made usable for His purpose will, when distributed to the need, fill the hungry soul, with plenty to spare. Jesus receives us unbroken, makes us usable for His kingdom and distributes us. The measure of good that comes from such a life can only be measured in eternity.
I trust these thoughts will give you courage.

Are You At Peace With Your Purpose
Ephesians 2 13-14 describe it this way. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace.
Are you at peace with the direction of your life? If you're a Christian, you should be. Perhaps you seek a new direction or a sense of renewed purose, but those feelings should never rob you of the genuine peace that can and should be yours through a personal relationship with Jesus.
Have you found the lasting peace that can be yours through Jesus, or are you still rushing after the illusion of "peace and happiness" procured by your feeble efforts? Have you sought a peace that our world cannot deliver?
Today, as a gift to yourself, to your family, and to your friends, claim the inner peace that is your spiritual birthright: the peace that comes through our submission to Jesus Christ.
When we seek the "Prince of Peace" we will find "true peace." A peace that passes understanding.
Proverbs 3:7 - Don't consider yourself to be wise; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
When we turn to the Lord we will find what will satisfy, not for a season but for an eternity.

Cost of Independence
Edward Schneider was a young student at Philip's Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, when the Civil War broke out. He enlisted at once and fought well, until he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Cold Harbor. As he lay dying, he said to his chaplain:
"Don't weep, chaplain, it is God's will. Please write to my father, and tell him that I have tried to do my duty to my country and to God...And there is my brother in the navy: write to him, and tell him to stand by the flag and cling to the Cross of Christ."
Quote from: "Billingsley Christianity" pg. 95.
Let's remember to stand by our flag and cling to the Cross of Christ this coming Independence Day. The flag is a constant reminder of our quest and victory for freedom placed at the top of a mast to waves in the winds that blow across this great land.
The cross is a constand reminder placed to stand across our land as a constant reminder that Jesus Christ fought the great fight for our freedom from sin and ultimately the strength of our nation through its people of faith.
Let's never forget to stand by the flag and cling to the Cross of Christ. It is our duty.
May God bless you with freedom and strength.

Count Your Blessings
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, wahtever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable - if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise - dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8 HCSB
How will your direct your thoughts today? Will you obey the words of Philippians 4:8 by dwelling upon those things that are honorable, just, and commendable? Or will you allow your thoughts to be hijacked by the negativity that seems to dominate our troubled word? Are you fearful, angry, bored, or worried? Are you so preoccupied with the concerns of this day that you fail to thank God for hte promise of eternity? Are you confused, bitter, or pessimistic? If so, God watns to have a little talke with you.
God intends that you experience joy and abundance. So, today and every day hereafte, celebrate the life that God has given you by focusing your thoughts upon those things that are worthy of praise. Today, [you have no other day in which to work] count your blessings instead of your hardships. Look into God's Word and view His great and preciosu promises. No one can do this for you. They may guide you but you ultimately and finally must view them for yourselves. These great and precious promises will come to life in your heart and bring life into you that you haven't had or haven't experienced in a while. Then thank God for all things good and gifts that are simply too numerous to count.
Proverbs 15:15 - "A cheerful heart has a continual feast."

Father's Day
I have just read a short exerpt from a collection of thoughts for Father's Day. This one is called priorities.
A first grader asked his mother why his Dad brought home a briefcase full of material each night. She explained that he had so much work to do that the couldn't get it all done at the office. The youngster pondered this soberly, then asked, "Well, why don't they put him in a slower group."
Parents, remember this. If you can't say no to some claims, your life will drip away like a leaky faucet. You won't make much of a splash anywhere.
Bill Bouknight, Collected Sermons.
If your work is so overwhelming that your children are left behind perhaps a less whelming job would serve a better purpose in this life.

God's Word
I am very thankful for the Word of God. I remember looking through our old family bible when I was small. In 1966 I was born again as was my desire to look into the Word of God. Having read it through and studied it much over these years I still find nuggets of truth. If the book were a novel one would know every word and find nothing new or that which was lying there in plain sight but hidden. I have not ceased to find food for thought and for the soul in these wonderful pages that are called "God's Word." I find words for every occasion and need. I find words that direct and redirect. I find words that calm the crisis. I find words that bring joy and words that cause concern. How ever it comes it is good for us. It cleanses and chastises us depending upon our need. It applauds and advances our actions. The Word of God is for us. For you. Read it for in its pages you will find what you need.

It's Been A While
It's been a while since I have posted anything. Without notice the controller of this blog site changed everything and for the longest i could not do anything. Along with several weeks of nonstop activity I found myself discouraged being unable to post a new blog.
This is somewhat like life that changes suddenly and without warning. We get blindsided and seem to be temporarily unable to get beyond the seeming barrier in our way. Such difficulties seem to unsettle us and at times stop us. Today as I write I write because I took the time to look a little closer at the new commands. The old commands were familiar and I didn't have to think or view the site closely.
Life has those moments when we stop, take a little time and look closer at God's commands. They get the same result but situations have changed. It just seems harder for a while.
As I publish this post today allow my failure to look a little closer at the commands be a lesson to all. Look a little closer to the commands of God when you get detracted for a season. His commands always bring us back to spiritual strength and fervor.
God bless you today.

Resurrection Power
The Easter week has passed! The generally ignored but most important part is the resurrection of Jesus from death. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is not past it is present. The power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power that raises mankind from his death in sin and trespasses toward God.
Man's imaagery and concoctions are of no lasting value. That which comes from God is the real solution for man and is eternal.
Don't let the knowledge and power of the resurrection subside with man's season. Continue in faith and substance with the truths of God. Those truths apply to you and me and to all who are afar off. It is of utmost importance that we follow after Christ because he is the redemption for all. There is no other. Any others are concoctions of man and won't save you in the end.
Prepare your heart through Jesus Christ. He not only saves us but also keeps us unto eternal life.
That is the promise of the resurrection.

The Resurrection of Christ
I have previously written on this subject however it is truly inexhaustable.
The resurrection is as important as the Divine Conception and Birth of Christ.
All events work together as the whole. One would be of no use without the other. Coupled together they become the "power of God to salvation" to everyone who believes and confesses Christ as Savior. The resurrection does the following:
1) It proves He is the Son of God (John 10:17-18
2) It attests to the truth of Scripture (Acts 2:29-39; Psalms 16:9-11).
3) It assures us of our own future resurrection after death (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
4) It is a proof of future judgment (Acts 17:30-31).
5) It is one of the central truths in Scripture (1 Corinthians 15:1-7).
6) It is the assurance of our future inheritance (1 Peter 1:3-5).
7) It is the foundation for Christ's heavenly priesthood (Hebrews 7:23-28).
8) It gives power to the Christian life (Galatians 2:19-21; Matthew 28:11-15).
My own personal relationship with Christ who has divinely freed me from the bondages of alcohol and its tributaries is proof to me of Christ Resurrected Life.
We really don't have to look very far to see that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
If you haven't looked into it do so. You won't be sorry.
May the day of celebration of the resurrection of Christ be the power of God to salvation for you.

The Resurrection
Since the first mention of Christ and the resurrection, man has looked with great anticipation of that event. In the fullness of time Christ divested Himself of His royal robes of heaven and wore the common clothes of the common man. The only mention of something more elaborate was the seamless robe which he wore. Into this sinful world Jesus came to bear the sins of mankind. Man could not save himself therefore he needed saving. Jesus preached that the kingdom of God had come nigh them but the religious heirarchy eventually had him killed (all according to the prophecy in Isaiah).
Jesus suffered to free us from suffering. Jesus died in our place in order that we might have freedom of life and spiritual immortality. The Resurrection is the payment for any who call upon Jesus to free them of sin and set them on the royal road to heaven. What an exchange. His suffering for our sins. His death for our life. His resurrection for our hope both now and evermore.
Man has called it Easter. God calls it the resurrection. Jesus declared victory over death and hell. He proclaimed it when he arose from the dead. He proclaimed it as He walked this earth in His earthly and heavenly body. He proclaimed it as he ascended into heaven by saying, "I will return and catch you away". The resurrection and easter are memorials of a great work that is worth our selling all and going forth and purchasing that which cannot be taken away.
May the memorial of Jesus resurrection and the anticipation of His return be ever in our hearts and minds.
God bless you.

Living Well In Christ
I just came home last evening after being with my daughter as she brought forth a new born son named Maximillian Cruz Rosales. This past Monday I left my daughters home in transit to my sons home about half way back to Thibodaux. I took a side journey to visit a lady who is in the Nursing Home in Hamlin, Texas. She has spent her years in the area and seen some hard times. In all these things she never forsook nor grew weary of serving her Lord and Savior. When I walked into the room she was facing away from me, had her head down and was searching for a number in the phone book. She was praying and endeavoring to help others. She was doing what she has always done; living well. She has always been a ready help to others and will pray at a moments notice. Her body is tired and her eyes are growing dim yet her faith is as strong today as it was in younger days. I have know her since 1966. Her common calling is prayer. Anyone who calls upon her will receive prayer at any time day or night. She was doing what she has always done; praying.
One day Jesus will step from heaven and come again to earth. We are to continue doing what we should do until Jesus returns. He may enter your presence from behind. What will you be doing?
I trust that you will do what you should be doing - having something to do with with and for Christ Jesus our Lord. He may come at any time and will be blessed when he finds you doing His will. Let your heart be filled with God's love and be about what you can do as long as you live - praying.
I want to imulate this example given by a dear lady who was doing what she could do as long as she lives. One day soon the angels of heaven will come with a mission; that of taking her home where her body will be strong and her eyes will once again be strong. Until then she is going about the work of God. She is living well.

Need Guidance?
As I take a look at the surroundings of this world I see a big need for guidance. Guidance has many faces but really only one foundation. That foundation is of and from God. Scripture tells us that there is no other foundation for truth and life than that of Christ Jesus our Lord.
Emotional responses to events that are happening or will happen are usually met with fear and or insecurity. Yes! The events of life do effect each of us in some way.
Israel's stand this week before the cameras of the world is strong and definitive. They are not making these statements out of defiance but out of an acute understanding that their enemies would have them dead. Not only dead but annihilated with no remembrance of them forever. This won't happen because we have spiritual guidance from God's Word.
The Word of God is a ready resource to those who enter a search of its pages. Sure, we all may have anxious moments or difficult moments during the time from here till Jesus comes again. But we have wonderful guidance in how we can remain at a stable position even though our heart races ahead because of events.
Someone said that bravery was not the abscence of fear but being able to respond positively in spite of it. That's where God's Word fits directly into our lives. We need guidance! We can have it. The possibilities are endless if we open the pages of God's Word. Couple this with prayer and hearing from God with his direct communication to our spirits. Why our spirits? Because God has come to live in the life of the believer through the infilling of the Holy Spirit. We have this connection to Him. His Holy Spirit guides, directs, counsels and convicts us of what is right and wrong. That is the guidance we need for all and every situation we face.
Seek God's guidance. It is always right.

Jesus Our Strength
Romans 5:6 - For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
A wonderful promise to the one who feels helpless or hopeless is that Christ will give strength.
Jesus said: "Come unto me all you who labor and are heavey laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).
God is a "whosoever" God. Whosoever will come and receive Him through Jesus Christ will find help and hope. Jesus is the healer of our soul, mind and body. He is your help in your time of need; just call upon Him. He comes to you in your need because light is best seen in the darkest hour.
If your life is dark in sin or events that leave you helpless and hopeless cry out to Jesus today and He will come and comfort you.
I recall the hour when I cried unto Jesus and He came to save me from my sin and set me upon a firm foundation. Fourty six years have passed and He is just as real in my life as when I first began with Him. Try Him! You will like Him!

Jesus Has Time For You
Time - one of the most valuable things that is at our disposal. Time is an asset or a liability depending upon the amount we do or do not have to complete an event or project.
Jesus seemed to always have time when he was going about his busy itenerate ministry of city to city and person to person evangelism.
Jesus didn't let the press of the day stop him from taking time to heal the woman with the issue of blood or to heal the blind man beside the road. He always noticed faith and need and stopped to fulfill their need both physical and spiritual.
Jesus purpose in coming to this earth was to seek the Lost. He always had time for the sinner. He went to Zaccheus house to eat as he always had time for the lost sinner. He allowed a sinful woman to bath his feet with perfume. Salvation came to her that day. He called out to a sinful fisherman named Peter to follow him. Peter then became one of the greatest men to ever share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Grace [unmerited favor] and mercy [release for the guilty] epitomize everything Jesus stands for.
Jesus has always sought the sinner, lost and hopeless, and has given each hope as each sought help from him. He hasn't changed.
Reach out to him today. He will be your friend and will change your life for good and eternity.
God bless each of you as you pursue after Christ. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

Read and Study The Scriptures
Time was when I had no love for the Holy Scriputres due to living an unholy life. The year was 1966, the month was January and the day the 19th. A beautiful day in my life dawned and set with my new life having begun that day and continues to this day. It is a joy to have the peace and knowledge of God in my life. A knowledge that salvation is to all who will receive it as a gift purchased by Jesus Christ for our sins. I remember the joy and fullness that entered my life as I prayed, asking God to forgive me of my sins.
Looking backward I wonder why I waited so long to ask Jesus into my heart. There certainly is nothing to be fearful of and new life to gain.
We look at the labor pains of this earth and know that our world is about to enter a very traumatic time such as has never been before. I believe that prior to the time of Great Tribulation we will be taken in the clouds with Jesus. At the end of the Tribulation we will come back with Jesus where the Battle of Armageddon will be fought. Immediately thereafter the millenial reign of Christ will be implemented upon this earth.
I find great solace in knowing that the smoke and turmoil will clear as Jesus comes back and sets up his everlasting kingdom. Its something to look forward to with great joy and expectation of a blissful eternity.
Make your plans to be on the side of Jesus. You won't regret it for a moment.

Salvation
It has been said that all salvation costs is what everyone can afford: one's self.
Coming to the Lord costs a man nothing and, at the same time, costs him everything. The offer is free in that a man need not pay anything in exchange for his salvation. "Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price" (Isaiah 55:1). Yet receiving salvation costs man his life. He no longer has the freedom of self-determination. "Seek the Lord while He may be found...Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him" (vs 6-7). All that it costs is what everyone can give: one's self.
Give yourself and get all that heaven has to offer. Not a bad exchange.
I am a rich man due to my coming inheritance in heaven. WOW!

God is the same everyday
Hebrews 13:8 - "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
God has always wanted mankind to walk in faith and trust in Him. This faith is fueled by none other than God himself. We believe and He responds to our need. When we think about faith it normally and confidently states that God has met us in the past, He is meeting us in the present, and we know He will still meet us in the future. He has brought us out of sin to bring us in to righteousness and ultimately to the heavenly city.
The future and our future is all known to God. He tells us that the "steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord." (Psalms 37:33) For all times of need that arise God has given us faith and the "gift of faith" just for the occasion. It is the God-given ability to trust your situation into His hands and see Him work it out for your comfort and for His glory.
Hebrews 11 is known as the "faith chapter" in the Word of God. Its not the only place where the action of faith is recorded but it is the one most mentioned. Open your Bibles to chapter 11 of Hebrews and renew your faith in God and begin anew the walk of faith. It is truly wonderful what God will do for those who trust in Him.
Have a faith day and a faith life. It is exciting.

Rest For The Believer
Exodus 33:14 - My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
Moses needed encouragement before taking the responsibility of taking the children of Israel out of Egypt. God promised him rest. Rest in its fullness is abscence of stress, conflict, turmoil, tension and hassle. This is not rest from activity, but a rest in the midst of activity.
Some people have the epitome of composure and serenity while everyone around them is going to pieces or "coming unglued. What is it that allows these people to show such inner strength and continual tranquility? An old way of describing it is "the rest of faith."
When we neglect to do what is right and what we should be doing we find ourselves worn out. When we work diligently through obedience and completing the task required of us we find and enter into a rest. This almost sounds like a contradition of terms: resting while laboring...resting while exerting energy. Obstinate disobedience brings turmoil and unrest. Willful obedience to God bings peace and rest. We know that we can only do so much but God is unlimited to help us as we believe and follow after Him in sincerity and faith.
Rest is encased in the following terms: Intermission, Recreation, Remain (standing in the difficult day), To refresh. Do you want an intermission from the evil intent designed against you. Do you want a recreation (re-creation) of you life with an ability to stand firm and be refreshed. If you do then start today by repenting of your sins and living a life of following after Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. He keeps Hs WORD for those who follow Him.
What a promise to each of us.
God bless you.

A Wonderful Awareness
Scripture tells us that if our heart does not condemn us then we have strength and peace with God. I have once again been made aware of this wonderful position we have in service to God. Yesterday Barb & I visited a wonderful saint of God who was making her exit to join the ranks of all the saints of God who have died in Christ. Gloria Cherry was a life long resident of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes and had served with her husband the late J. B. Cherry for many, many years of faithful service.
The last conversation I had with her was last Monday evening concerning a man she had brought to church the previous Wednesday in hopes of helping him. She lived her faith to the fullest and yesterday, the 27th of January 2012 at 5:55 p.m. slipped into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of her blogs in recent days was "I'm homesick for heaven." She is now there comforted in the presence of God forever and ever.
The lady I have been acquainted with always had a smile and a desire to help others. In heaven the scripture tells us that we "shall be known as we are known." Heaven is enjoying the delightful spirit with added laughter, singing and praise. Heaven has gained a worthy servant.
Do you have a wonderful awareness that your hope is in "nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness?" You can. Ask Jesus to come into your life and forgive you of your sins and tell Him of your need for Godly direction. He will be happy to come and help you. Do it now.

Past Present Future
The celerations of this past season are quickly shrinking in the rear view mirror of life and living.
We have several days we remember such as New Years day, Memorial Day, Independence Day,
THanksgiving and Christmas. We have several other days during the year that are memorialized for one reason or another and each has its own significance.
I have found one simple way of staying somewhat fresh in life. That is to not forget the past, live right in the present knowing that the future awaits us.
No place does this hold more significance than our life and service in and for Christ. Our rememberance of the past is important in that we resolve to be an overcomer of our spiritual failings and rejocie when we have spiritual victories. We must live a balanced life with the past by remembering those failures and victories and bring their remembrance into our present living.
The failures should be a springboard to project our lives toward those things that make for life in Christ therefore victory. Our victories should be cherished in order to be thankful to the Lord who gives us the victory.
In living the present successfully we then look with joy and expectation at our future because Jesus has purchased our lives on the cross, thereby giving us hope and promise of a new life here, now and eternal life when Jesus comes for all His saints from the past and present who have secured their future in Christ.
Your future is bright in the light of God's gift to all - Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
God bless you all
