Bringing up the rear

To some this will be a negative conotation refering to dragging by or being lethargical in action and mind. However I want to entice you to think of "bringing up the rear" in a little different way.
The tribe of Dan were assigned to bring up the rear when the armies of Israel were on the march. The Danites occupied the hindmost place, but what matters the position since they were as truly part of the host as were the foremost tribes. They followed the same fiery cloud, they ate the same manna, drank the same water and journeyed to the same inheritance.
Let me put it this way for us today; those who bring up the rear are charged with as great or greater responsibility as those in the front. The rear of the column is where the stragglers show up sooner or later. The rear is where the hurting and the tired tend to gravitate and just one step from stopping and giving up. So I think those charged with bringing up the rear may well play a most important role in saving the lives of those unable to keep the pace. They may be charged with the ministry of resuscitating the tired and hurting. They may be charged with standing in the way of those ready to give up.
Those in the rear are undoubtly required to supply their own strength for the journey as well as helping those who have lost their strength.
Your ministry that is not out front is just as important as any other. In the rear is where the enemy tries to sneak in and snatch a few stragglers. In doing so they cause doubt and fear to enter the marching army thereby imparing their will to continue and fight the good fight of faith.
Take heart and rejoice if you are bring up the rear. It may well be a place where your gifting is best suited.
God bless you today.
